InterWorks conducted a three-day workshop in Tokyo, Japan Tokyo, from 28 – 30 October 2009 for participants responsible for (or working in support of) staff security for their various organizations – JICA staff members, other Japanese government offices, NGOs, and a reporter from the Asahi Newspaper. The course focused on the overall security risk management (SRM) approach as well as specific tools and techniques, from initial threat assessment to mitigation of risk, security planning, and critical incident management. The course trainers provided short presentations of key components of the overall SRM approach and facilitated the participants’ experience and practice in using each of the SRM tools provided through case study-based exercises. Three countries were chosen for the prepared case studies: Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Sudan. Short field case studies from the participants themselves were also presented this year in accordance with the recommendations of last year’s course evaluation.
Undoubtedly, this was wonderful training session. It was not only to discuss the security risk management issues but also described very nicely about the managerial skills.”
