United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nov 2016
InterWorks facilitated the 22nd workshop event of the ongoing Security Management Learning Programme (SMLP) in Bangkok, Thailand from 28 November-1 December 2016. The SMLP is a Global Learning Centre (GLC) and Division of Emergency, Security and Supply (DESS) joint initiative to support managers in the field by increasing capacities and awareness in handling the difficult challenge of balancing operational imperatives and the safety of staff. It is a blended learning programme, consisting of a self-study module with an online test, followed by a workshop.
The course curriculum followed that of previous year SMLPs but was revised further to address the new UNSMS Security Risk Management process which was effective as of December 2015. Twenty-three participants from UNHCR participated actively throughout the 5-day workshop. The workshop was intensive, interactive and work-oriented, and employed a variety of methodologies, including two mini critical incident management simulation exercises, presentations and case studies as well as group and plenary discussions. It also included an extensive practical application of security risk management methods.
The pace, content and the delivery of the presentations was excellent. The presenters were dynamic, clear and occasionally very funny. I think this is one of the better organized workshops I have ever attended in UNHCR and I will retain a lot of the info shared because of how it was delivered and because of the practical exercise & simulation.
