Situational Emergency Training (SET)

UNHCR jointly conducted with InterWorks a Situational Emergency Training 28 – 30 November 2023 at the Primera Brigada de Infantería “General LuisGarcia León” en Flores, Peten Guatemala.

The first two days of the training were designed exclusively for UNHCR Guatemala head of field offices and field staff to respond to the mixed movements crisis in Guatemala. All five field offices and the Guatemala office were represented at this SET. During the third day, the UNHCR Guatemala Peten office and the other five heads-of-field offices in the country were joined by partner NGOs and local authorities from Peten region. The purpose of the third day was to strengthen coordination and communication between UNHCR staff and partners and to build consensus around the mixed movement and climate related emergency scenarios for 2024.

Workshop session themes included: emergency preparedness, protection, coordination, Sphere standards and temporary shelter, data and information management, and emergency scenario-based risk analysis. All sessions were delivered in Spanish.

Diverse facilitation helped to maintain interest in the topics presented.
