National Disaster Training Programme Course Materials and Workshops

The Salvation Army | 2002-2005

InterWorks managed the design, development and production of nine courses for The Salvation Army’s National Disaster Training Programme (NDTP). The project began in June 2002 when The Salvation Army (SA) received a three-year grant for the development and initial implementation of a U.S. training program.

InterWorks managed the development and production of the course modules from the research and material gathered in focus groups to the final publication of training materials packages. Each course package consisted of a participant guide, an instructor guide, a PowerPoint presentation set and an accompanying video.

The goal of the training program was to develop and implement a standardized training program to ensure that all Salvation Army disaster responders, including officers, staff and local volunteers, have access to quality educational training and tools. The training was aimed at developing disaster responders’ skills and knowledge, better preparing and equipping them to respond to disasters in a prompt, efficient and effective manner.

The following courses were conducted at the May 2005 North American Disaster Training Conference held in Orlando, Florida, and several were pre-tested at national and regional pilots prior to the conference.
