UNHCR Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) May 2010
InterWorks conducted its ninth Emergency Team Leadership Programme (ETLP) in Switzerland from 16 to 20 May 2010.
The ETLP is a blended learning programme consisting of a pre-workshop phase with readings, peer feedback and self-assessments, a weeklong face-to-face workshop and a post-workshop learning activity. Themes which anchor the design of the ETLP include “emotional intelligence”, “situational leadership”, “’win-win’ negotiation”, “decision-making in emergencies”, “team care/trust building in emergencies” and “coaching”. All ETLP learning activities, discussions and presentations are contextualized to reflect humanitarian emergency environments, challenges and scenarios.
The programme was designed and developed by InterWorks. At the request of and in close consultation with the IASC, UNHCR serves as the institutional home for the ETLP by facilitating the tendering, overseeing the design and ensuring the delivery of the learning programme. The ETLP targets individuals within the IASC network of agencies (at the UN P4 level) who are currently leading teams or offices in the field or who expect to be available for deployment as emergency team leaders within 12 months following the workshop.
This course has been a great learning experience for me. I feel like this is the beginning of a longer learning process for me as I apply the skills introduced in the course to the team I am currently leading. The instructors are fantastic. I definitely feel that this course has empowered me to be a more confident and flexible leader.
