International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Jul 2008
InterWorks prepared training materials and facilitated a pilot workshop on Information Management in the Emergency Shelter Cluster (ESC). The workshop was held in Geneva from 9 – 11 July 2008 and participants came from UNHCR, Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies, the IFRC secretariat and NGOs.
The training was designed to help participants learn to set up and operate an Information Management system (IM) within the ESC. Participants learned about the linkages between coordination, decision-making and IM and how information supports strategic decision making. They also became familiar with tools for managing communication and data/information collection and sharing using real-life field data. Participants constructed creative solutions to real-life problems in data collection, storage and collation, processing, analysis, and information. They also became familiar with the shelter-related information needs of other sectors.
