InterWorks facilitated a contingency planning refresher workshop in Mawlamyine, Myanmar from 16-19 March 2010. The overall objective of this workshop, as revised on site and implemented, was to strengthen the relationships with, and the capabilities of, the Government of Myanmar to carry out more effective and coordinated contingency planning for disasters of all types, and in particular, for the potential return of refugees from Thailand. The event was a training exercise about the types of field assessment that would be required to complete contingency planning for return and other situations. Participants were taken to a nearby village for a field assessment exercise.
I have learnt a lot about contingency planning. This is my first experience. The field trip was very interesting.
