United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Apr 2008
InterWorks conducted a Complex Emergencies workshop in SuZhou, China from 7-11 April 2008. This workshop was designed to illustrate the dynamics and underlying structures of the international humanitarian response system, with a particular focus on the UN system and integrated UN missions, for staff invited by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Participants included Chinese civil servants and one Red Cross staff. The workshop incorporated a highly participatory training approach and methodology. The intended outcome was to help build relations between the MFA and UNHCR as well as to introduce the participant group to the international standards and systems of international humanitarian response.
Makes me get a clear picture of the challenges and difficulties that the international community faces everyday when there are refugees, the working procedures of the Non-governmental organizations that get themselves involved in helping refugees.
