Basics of International Humanitarian Response (BIHR) Online

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | Mar 2025

The UNHCR Regional Centre for Emergency Preparedness – eCentre held its third condensed and online version of the Basics of International Humanitarian Response (BIHR) workshop from 24-28 March 2025 based on the long-running BIHR face-to-face and online workshops. The online workshop was conducted with 24 participants enrolled from primarily from UNHCR, NGOs, and government counterparts from several countries in the region.

This webinar series was planned upon request of the UNHCR Myanmar Operation and held to support capacity-building and general readiness among the Myanamar-based participants for possible emergency response in Myanmar. InterWorks was asked to assist in the preparation and facilitation of the eight-day long webinar series based on the January 2021 pilot version of this event. The UNHCR e-Centre hosted the event on Zoom and provided essential administrative and support services.

The five half-days, comprised of 10 distinct sessions, provided a concise and engaging overview of the range of humanitarian emergency response topics. This BIHR Online workshop was designed to improve understanding of humanitarian emergencies and increasing participants’ ability and confidence to respond to them; improve the quality of protection and assistance received by persons in need, by increasing awareness of standards of international humanitarian assistance; facilitate more concerted responses by promoting an understanding of the importance of coordination among partners; and meet other humanitarian professionals, network and exchange ideas.

This workshop is one of the best interactive online workshop I participated last few years. The facilitation was very impressive
