United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Oct 2007
InterWorks conducted a Basics of International Humanitarian Response workshop from 2 – 9 October 2007 in Pranburi, Thailand. The course focused on 3 main elements of international humanitarian response: (1) Technical knowledge of the humanitarian ‘sectors’, (2) practical field skills, such as radio usage, GPS and map reading, first aid, etc., and (3) coordination (including negotiation and communication skills) of the multiple international and local responders into an effective humanitarian response. The course was held at Pranburi, Thailand in order to take advantage resources offered by the nearby Camp Thanarat, (Royal Thai Army Infantry Training Center) which has been used extensively in the eCentre’s various security-related courses for field security simulations.
I thought the course was fantastic and really enjoyed the participatory nature of it. Fun and interactive and I learnt a lot! Thanks!
