APEM Platform Forum on Urban Humanitarian Response

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | Nov 2013

InterWorks supported the design, development and facilitation of a 3-day meeting of UNHCR, Government, NGO and UN partners from the eCentre network of Asia-Pacific Emergency Management (APEM) Platform held 11-13 November 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The primary objectives of the forum were to provide Platform institutions with an opportunity to share challenges, lessons learned and successful practices in urban humanitarian response in their areas of operation; facilitate the acquisition of new knowledge and information on current trends and practices in urban humanitarian response in Asia and the Pacific; and to further strengthen inter-agency collaboration, exchange, and partnership in the Asia-Pacific region.

The forum also included the presentation and discussion of five individual case studies highlighting areas such as population reception, community outreach and engagement, access to services, and self-reliance and livelihoods strategies in the urban context.
