In June 2010 InterWorks evaluated the UNESCO Myanmar Education Recovery Programme (MERP) which was developed as a response to Cyclone Nargis. MERP is a technical assistance programme with an objective to enhance the resilience of the education sector, through a focus on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness as an integral part of the education system. MERP consists of two primary projects – capacity building of education administrators, principals and teachers and capacity building through training materials and information kits.
