United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) May 2006
InterWorks facilitated a three-day workshop on Environmental Management in Refugee Situations in Debre Zeit, Ethiopia from 16–19 May 2006. Participants represented UNHCR, the Ethiopia Governments’ ARRA, and the NGO implementing partners as well as from UN partners, specifically UNEP and WFP. The workshop was based on training materials developed by InterWorks. Key learning objectives included: describing potential environmental impacts of refugee populations; identifying UNHCR’s role in addressing these impacts; describing the environmental assessment processes and tools; identifying several environmental management strategies; and preparing a community environmental action plan.
This workshop brings people from government, international organizations etc. together…Thoroughly enjoyed workshop and feel that what I have learned will be very useful in the field.
